The S in L.I.S.T.E.N. stands for symptoms.

What are your symptoms mean to you understand that they are not a curse, but actually, clues to healing. Symptoms are symbols or metaphors that you can use to gain greater insight into your life.

Get clear on whether or not your disease is actually incurable. And what exactly in your disease needs to be cured. discover whether you are blaming yourself or someone else for your disease, condition or health.

Take responsibility for the parts that you can change by acknowledging your symptoms, and taking action to get to the root of the problem.

Let me give you an example. So you’ve been told that you are at risk for heart disease because it runs in your family. As you are overweight, you worry that you’re doomed to the same fate, you know that you should exercise and eat healthier, but to you at all feels pointless. Nothing appears to make a difference, or at least that’s what you tell yourself. As you feel more and more depressed, you notice that your bloating easily, you just assume that depression must be a treat from one side of your family. Maybe it is part of heart disease. Then you get informed. You start noticing when you bloat, you take decisive action to eliminate the food that causes your body to produce that symptom. By eliminating this food not only do you stop bloating, but your metabolism stops working and you lose weight. Now you feel better and you start to move more. When you go back to your doctor, despite your changes. You’re still told that you’re at risk for heart disease, but it’s different now. Do you not believe that you have some control over that outcome?

Are you not more empowered to make choices that work for you and leave that statement in the dust?
