Change Your Environment for Better Health with Dr Stacey Cooper
on The Healers Café with Dr Manon Bolliger ND

In this episode of The Healers Café, Dr. Manon Bolliger ND, talks to Dr Stacey Cooper about the body’s incredible ability to heal itself and never cease to be amazed at what the body is capable of as she experiences healing miracles every day in her office.

Highlights from today’s episode include:

Dr. Stacey Cooper 03:22

Well, and that is one of the key components right now is the energy that fear puts into your body. It creates a diseased state. So, when you want to step into health, nobody’s telling you anything about how to stay healthy or get healthy or prevent anything. And they’re actually taking away everything that would help you to get healthy. Because health comes from within. Your body has warriors within it to keep you strong and healthy. Your body was designed that way.

Dr. Stacey Cooper 09:19

The North American diet is like putting diesel fuel in a gasoline engine. The engine isn’t running properly. So, the North American diet is fueling the body in a bad way. And the diabetic epidemic, this is the first generation of children who will not outlive their parents. And this too, is a crime because in today’s society with health and wellness, all the technology that we have and all the conveniences, longevity is supposed to be increasing, not decreasing

Dr. Stacey Cooper

Whatever environment you provide for your body, it can adapt to that environment. However, if that environment is a negative environment, and it’s negatively influencing the health of your body, your body will do the best that it can for as long as it can, until it can’t adapt anymore. And that’s when signs and symptoms start to show up. And disease starts to show up. And dysfunction of cells, organs and systems begins to show up. But the remarkable thing is you can reverse any disease process by changing the environment you provide for your body.

Welcome to the Healers Cafe. Conversations of health and healing with Dr. Manon.

Dr. Manon 00:16

So welcome to the Healers Cafe. And today I have with me, Dr. Stacy Cooper, and she… well look, what really got me Is that she is a fourth-generation practitioner with clinical experience spanning 26 years. But for generations, that’s unbelievable. She’s a chiropractor and is also a holistic wellness authority and inspirational speaker, educator, and the founder of Lifestyle Balanced Solutions. And her newest release is Heal Your Health Naturally, which is endorsed by Bob Proctor. So, and it hit the movie The Secret, Jack Canfield, and co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul. So that’s quite impressive. Get the word out and get some new people on board. So welcome to, to our conversation about health.

Dr. Stacey Cooper 01:20

Thank you so much. I’m so glad to be here today.

Dr. Manon 01:23

So, my usual first question is, what got you into healing in the first place? And I’m thinking four generations? Well, I don’t know. What kept you in?

Dr. Stacey Cooper 01:38

Exactly. Since I was 12 years old, I was actually working in the office with my dad as a receptionist, a girl Friday, right, Saturday mornings, I would go to the office with him. I joke that Tim Hortons got me into chiropractic because as a young girl, we would stop for a hot chocolate on the way to the office of what better way to start the day. Now looking back on that. I wouldn’t be doing that now. But that was them. So anyway, fast forward. I’ve always wanted to be a chiropractor. And I still love it to this day, and chiropractors don’t retire. We just we keep adjusting till the last day. So, I’m thrilled to be doing what I’m doing and sharing with the world how they can heal their health naturally as well. And that’s so much more…

critical this year than ever before.

Dr. Manon 02:29

Yeah, definitely. Well, there’s a lot of fear about health. I mean, the good news is it’s the first time that health has really become first of mind for people, but instead of a positive connection to health, it’s fear. Fear of disease, fear, you know, all these things that probably I could get banned if I pronounced. So, but of these pandemic things that might be happening. It’s very scary. So, people are aware of health, and then they’re absolutely frightened without realizing the impact that fear has on their bodies. Right. So yeah, it’s shocking anyway, but going I’m taking it away, go on with health.

Your body is repairing every single second of every day. Restoration happens with rest. So, your body repairs, rejuvenates, regenerates during rest, and if you’re not getting great rest, then your body is deteriorating. But there are so many other components to great health. Exercise is a critical component to health, keeping your lungs healthy and strong your heart pumping your blood moving and keeping your immune system boosted is all affected. Also, exercise decreases stress levels. Increased stress decreases immune system function. Everything that they’re taking away is detrimental to your health. They’ve taken away the gyms they’ve taken away being together. We are social beings we need to be together in community. Solitary confinement is a corporal punishment because we are social beings. Mental health and wellness religion relies on connection, togetherness, sharing time, touch, hugging, being together, all of these things have been shown scientifically to improve immune system function.

Dr. Manon 05:14

But I think, I mean, I’m totally on the same page is you on that level. And it’s like, when we think they who is this they, when everything is supposed to be science based? And if it is science based, like you say there is plenty of information available on many things that one can do. There’s tons of studies on, on being able to do exercises, studies on what you eat, there’s studies on vitamin D levels, there’s studies on vitamin C, you know, you know, I can go on and on. And this is not prescriptive, I’m just covering myself there. But the idea is that we, we have things and touch, you know, you mentioned touch it like it affects our hormones, it connects us it, it stabilizes us. No wonder these elderly people are suffering so much, you know. But so, what is or how are you…can you make any sense of why is it that we’re thinking constantly instead of what we can do, which is what you know, you as a chiropractor, me as a naturopath, we’re used to thinking, how can we help people stay healthy? And here, it’s now focused all on this disease, or the potential of a disease, right? Like to me, that seems. It’s so funny, I had hope that when this came out, that all of these modalities that really support people would be flourishing in this time. That’s actually what I thought is like, well, this is the time where, you know, and we’re licensed, legit professionals, that this would be the time where we’d be put up there saying, hey, talk to them. They know the body. They’ve been working on it for years generations in your case, you know. And it’s like, it hasn’t really happened that way.

Dr. Stacey Cooper 07:32

No, because it’s programming television is called television programming for a reason. Well, there’s one narrative that they want you to hear. And when they’ve removed all of these things, locked you up, kept you separate. So, you can’t have conversation so that you can’t implore critical thinking. If you’re comparing two things, which are thought to be the same, and if one thing lowered in its incident rate, because of hand washing and mask wearing, but the other thing, which is still in the same category went up? That doesn’t make any sense. I can’t have it go both ways. Right. So that that’s part of the critical thinking that needs to come forward. And knowing in your heart, what your body truly needs. Children need to be together for social interaction, for empathy, for play, for sharing, for social development. And it’s, it’s, anyway, we should…we got to stop there, because that’s gonna go down a wrong hole.

Dr. Manon 08:47

Let’s go back to health. Well, you one of your focuses is diabetes. Right? Is that in your practice? I mean, so why don’t we talk a little bit about that what people can actually do? And potentially, if they’re doing it, are they at crazy risk now, if they’re taking steps clearly in the direction of healthcare, so maybe if you speak to any of that or all of that, that would be awesome.

Dr. Stacey Cooper 09:19

Fantastic. And yes, diabetes is an epidemic right now. The North American diet is like putting diesel fuel in a gasoline engine. The engine isn’t running properly. So, the North American diet is fueling the body in a bad way. And the diabetic epidemic, this is the first generation of children who will not outlive their parents. And this too, is a crime because in today’s society with health and wellness, all the technology that we have and all the conveniences, longevity is supposed to be increasing, not decreasing. And you can see the obesity that’s occurring in our younger population is simply from all the sugar and the preservatives and chemicals and GMOs that are happening in the food sources. And so, if you are pre diabetic or you are type two diabetic, your body is adapting twenty-four seven, three sixty-five to the environment around you. If it’s cold, and its wintertime, and you go out in shorts and a T shirt, your body will shiver to keep you warm. If it’s 90 degrees outside, and it’s hot, and its summertime, and you go in shorts and a T shirt, but you’re sweating, your body is adapting to keep you cool. So, when you change how you’re fueling your mind, the things that you’re listening to the music, that you’re listening to the words that you use, the things that you read. When you nourish your spirit, naturally, when you get outside, when you ground in nature, when you reduce your stress levels, when you meditate, and you bring a calm and healing energy to the body. When you change the foods that you’re providing for your system, and you fuel your body better, it can heal, you can reverse those disease processes. Why? Because your body is a miraculous adaptive mechanism. And it will adapt to the new environment. And that’s how you can reverse it. So, if you are diabetic or pre diabetic, and you are concerned about your health and well-being, if you are already taking steps in a forward direction to improve your health, then your energy has already shifted. Your mental and emotional state has already shifted because you’re proactive, and you’re stepping into health, that alone will help to boost your immune system. And then especially as you begin to incorporate more healthy wellness tips, then that too, will improve it as well.

Dr. Manon 12:34

It makes sense, right? It’s like, ultimately, we have to make a choice. It’s like, and it’s from the victimhood of believing the typical prognosis that comes with a diagnosis, you know, because most people are still being told, well, you know, even though there’s one familial and the other one’s not. So, it’s like, hmm, interesting. And I know the age range has changed because the habits have changed, right. But people get attached to their diagnosis, and its doom and gloom, and they go into deeper victimhood. And it’s a challenge to get the information out, so that people see that it’s actually not true. We have agency over our bodies, right?

Dr. Stacey Cooper 13:29

Absolutely.

Dr. Manon 13:30

So yeah, anyway, please go on.

Dr. Stacey Cooper 13:35

It’s funny, because people think that, well, if mum and dad had it, then I’m going to have it and there isn’t anything I can do about it. That is not true. If through epigenetics, we are understanding through scientific research, that genes can be turned on and turned off depending on the environment that those genes are expressed in. So, if you provide the same environment that mum and dad did, then yes, most likely, you will have the same thing that mum and dad had, because you’re in the same environment. But everything is a choice. Every day that you wake up, you get to choose, you get to choose how you wake up, how you start your day, what you feel your body with, whether you exercise or not, whether you succumb to the stress, or you take on the stress, and manage it and deal with it differently. You have choices, whether you decide not to choose that’s a choice too. Everything is a choice. So, you can provide a different environment for your body, and your outcomes will change. And that’s the only way that your outcomes will change is if you choose differently, because of course if you continue to do the same thing over and over, you’re not going to end up with a different outcome.

Commercial Break 14:51

Hi, I’m Dr. Manon Bolliger and I wanted to take a moment to thank you for watching these podcasts. If you haven’t subscribed, please do. Also feel free to leave comments and like it. This way more people get to find out about this work and about other choices for health. So, I think it’s really important that we all share this information, I have a free gift to you. It’s a seven-sequence email that has tips for every day, and a little insight about how to live your life when it comes to health. And it’s very much built on how I managed to overcome stage four cancer and what it took. So, I would love you to have this. And thank you once again, for listening to these podcasts.

Dr. Manon 15:54

And I think, you know, the solutions are out there. Like, that’s the thing, it’s the how do you get people to make the choice that I’m going to investigate on something and especially when we’re in a culture that has a narrative. I mean, now with this pandemic, it’s an unbelievable narrative. There’s no discussion even, right? So, it’s just, it’s this is the way and there’s no other way and this is it, right? But on all issues of health, having a discussion is what evolves the science, it involves the way that we can also help people. And it just keeps everyone sharp and on the ball. So, it’s good when there and there’s plenty of studies with diabetes, and what one can do, like you say, not just preventatively, but to change the course of it. And yet, it’s still not known by everybody, which is kind of a shocking thing. If you think about it, right? Why wouldn’t we know if we were truly health oriented?

Dr. Stacey Cooper 17:06

Exactly. And that’s part of the difficulty because if you only go to one source, then of course, you’re only going to get one answer. And oftentimes that keeps you in the system. Whereas if you explore different avenues, different sources, you talk with other people get a conglomeration of different points of view, different sources of information and make an informed, educated decision. That is where real health comes from. That’s where TRUE LIVING comes from. Is getting a conglomeration of information and sifting through it and coming to your own conclusion in regard to what is best for you. Because you are the one who’s in charge of you. No one else is. Yeah. And no one else can impose their belief system upon you unless you allow it to. And so, researching different avenues is the only way that you can really find what is best for you so that you can make a true informed decision.

Dr. Manon 18:14

Well, informed choice is a big pet peeve of mine, because my background actually was in law. So, it’s something actually, when I was studying my Masters, I was like, okay, all these alternatives that help people what’s going on? Why is you know, why are people not? Why is it not the obligation of for example, the mainstream conventional narrative, to say, okay, in this case, we’re actually not trained in, for example, nutrition. But there are people trained in it, or we’re not actually trained in body dynamics. So, actually, these people are, and, you know, so it’s always disturbed me, that it’s like, we can make a choice. But we’re not, we’re not told we actually even have to search for our choices. And this, I mean, it couldn’t be more flagger than what’s happening right now. Because the narrative has never been so defined in this particular case, and the fear so high. And my fear is that people will make, are not making informed decisions of what they can do either to prevent a treat to all of that stuff. It’s you know, anything to do with this. In fact, we need these discussions we need to be able to, to really talk about this and find out for ourselves, how do we feel? You know? Because I have, it doesn’t matter to me what people do, I want them to do it because they, they’re definitely aligned, and they’ve received the information. I’ll give you just like, it’s just coming to me. One of my earliest patients in Nova Scotia had a hysterectomy checked off on her intake form. And I, she came in for, for fertility, she wanted to know how to best carry her pregnancy and her all of this, and how to get prepared for it. And I saw this tech and I went, okay, maybe she just put the wrong one, you know. And sadly, she did not, she actually didn’t know what that meant. But she was recommended this procedure for her terrible menses as a way to prevent them. And it’s like, you know, to have to tell her that she no longer has a uterus, that that’s what it means. And she can’t carry a baby. I mean, I got really, I mean, it’s still this is like, nearly 30 years later, I am still so upset about this issue that people must get to the bottom of things and not take it for granted that we’re going to be told the right things. You know, not everyone has all the knowledge, we the customer has to put it together, and reach out, and ask So, anyhow, yeah, it’s, it’s very, it’s very upsetting. So, with you, I mean, not just IB’s I know, of course, there’s many more things you can help people with. But if people are listening, and they’re saying, okay, I’ve got this, and I’m afraid you have, you have solutions, you have ways that they can take steps.

Dr. Stacey Cooper 22:02

Absolutely. And there are many steps that you can take. But starting with baby steps is always the best way. Because that’s a sustainable way to make your way to a healthy lifestyle. And so, I have a really great resourceful tool called 10, down in 10 days, which is 10 simple steps that you can implement just 10 minutes at a time. So, this guide has all 10 steps in it. One thing that I really love about the guide, and all of my clients do is that on the back page, all 10 steps are summarized there. So, you can pull up the back page and put it on the fridge. And it really is a great reminder in regard to how to start your day, how to shift your energy, how to get your body moving, how to hydrate your body, well, how to fuel it better for better outcomes, how to get better sleep, because your body restores during rest. And all of that is included in so much more in the simple guide. So go ahead and grab it. The link will be displayed here. I believe it’s www.10down10days.com. So, you can help yourself to the free guide. And I look forward to helping you heal your health naturally.

Dr. Manon 23:14

I think it’s really important to get just basic things and to feel that empowerment. It’s like you said it’s the next step, then the next step. And the thing is you implement any one of these things, you start going, huh? I can you know, I am connected to it, right? Because we live in such a disconnected society where we don’t notice that we’re empowered, like that we actually are if we just step into it. So, when we were talking about New York practice, or the four generations of practices, what have you found to be one of the most neglected either directly to do with health or to do with the attitude or practices, habits of people that isn’t serving.

Dr. Stacey Cooper 24:12

One of the biggest areas that I find, and especially with women is that of self-care. You know, as a little girl, even I was taught to share with your friends, if somebody didn’t have a red crayon, I gave them mine, right? If they didn’t have enough for their lunch, I shared my snacks with them, always to give because to keep to yourself was considered selfish. And so that’s how growing up I actually determined my own self-worth from the praise that I got from everybody else in regard to things that I was doing for everyone else. The more that I did for everyone else, the more praise I received and the better I felt about myself because that was my self-worth. And that is one of the biggest downfalls that I have ever experienced in my entire life because I wasn’t looking after me. I was exhausted, I was fatigued, I was spot tired, my body wasn’t functioning well. And self-love is the number one thing, and even I succumb to it myself. It is the number one thing that is neglected, simply because I think that we perceive it as being selfish, and that has a negative connotation. But the point is, if you don’t look after you, no one else is gonna do it for you. And when you practice self-love, you’re actually re-energizing, rejuvenating, you’re filling up your cup, and then you can show up as your best version of you to give more of yourself. And that’s just a better way to live life. Because now you have decreased your stress levels, because you took care of you first, you maybe did some meditation, you maybe just read a book for the fun of it and took a break and recharged your batteries. Perhaps you went for a walk outside, to ground with nature, to hear the birds, to feel the breeze on your face, to feel the sunshine on your skin. All of these things have such an incredible benefit to the immune system, and to your health and well-being and your mental wellness. To take that break emotionally and mentally to recharge because stress levels are so high and stress that just increases the cortisol hormone. That’s the stress hormone. And that’s the hamster running on the wheel. So, when you think of your body, like an engine, if that hamster is just running, running, running, and it never slows down to a resting idle, that’s when the parts wear out. You need to take a break, you need to come to that resting idle, you need to allow those parts to regenerate and rejuvenate. And self-love is the way to do it. So, what I share with my clients is ink in into your calendar because you have great intention to get to that yoga class or to do that thing that you want to do for yourself. But it’s put at the bottom of the list. And there’s too much day, by time you get to the end of the list because you never get to the end of the list. I’m sorry, there’s not enough day is what I meant to say. And, but if you ink it in, if you make that commitment to you, and you set that reminder in your phone with an alarm, so that you actually go to that yoga class, no matter how busy you are. You make the time for you and put yourself at the top of your priority list. And that’s when everything changes. That’s when you show up as your best version of you, and how you can begin to take charge of your health and well-being and really step into your best life.

Dr. Manon 27:52

I think we’ve been living on the same planet. It’s the same like in my practice too I so agree with you. It’s um, it is that self-care and that self-love. And I use this so well it is putting it in the agenda. And yeah, one of the sentences that I got back from many of my patients is the one sentence, is this loving to you? So many times. Well, once I started asking that at all times, when I’m sort of getting a feeling like I’m, I’m overwhelmed or I’m too busy or wait a minute here. Let’s just ask that question is this is the choice you’re making right now loving to you? And if it’s not stop it. And it was kind of an end. So many people have changed from that, I think self-care. And I think it’s true a woman, you know, have made an identity about the givers and the nurturers and you know, I mean, even airplane policy, put your mask on first before you help others. They have to say it because most women wouldn’t.

Dr. Manon 29:10

I guess well, my kids first.

Dr. Stacey Cooper 29:16

And I love that, you know, it has to be self-love first. So, you’re saying it’s just so fitting. Because if it doesn’t serve you if it’s not in in alignment with the love that you have for yourself, then don’t do it. Right. And it’s so to me, it was so hard to say no initially, because I was such a yes person to actually take that moment of thought and critical thinking about how will this pan out for me? Is this really going to drain me? Is it going to overtax my calendar? Is it going to take me away from my family, my kids, you know, whatever my priorities were, if you know it was so hard for me to say no in the beginning. So, getting good at saying no is a real challenge. But it’s certainly one worthwhile overcoming.

Dr. Manon 30:06

So, any, any other last statements you want to make or share.

Dr. Stacey Cooper 30:12

I’d love to share is that you have the choice, you have the opportunity to step into anything that you desire, anything that you can imagine you can absolutely create in your life in your world, and what you want the outcomes to be. You just have to choose to take one step forward towards that goal. And so, I invite you to step into manifesting the life that you desire, whether it be improved health, or improved relationships, or more success with your work that you’re doing. Whatever area of your life or areas of your life that you want to change and shift, you have the power to do it. And no one else can do it for you. So, I encourage you to step into it.

Dr. Manon 31:03
